How it All Began

Jesse and I celebreated our 13th anniversary of meeting each other on March 2 and I just thought this might be a good time to reflect on how it all began. I am going to back up just a bit to February 3, 1996, my 15th birthday and I went to my friend Peter’s house for my birthday party. I was also sorta seeing Peter’s cousin, Ben at the time and we had been seeing each other for a few months. At this party there was this new gal that I had never met before and we got to chattin a bit and she was pretty nice. Well, as it turns out Ben was also seeing her, so the night didn’t turn out quite as I had planned, just to say the least. Right after that my family and I were off to Hawaii for two or three weeks. Which was absolutely gorgeous and breath taking. However, once I got home I wanted nothing to do with guys and figured I just needed a break.

As a birthday present my friend Britney took me to a White Zombie concert on March 2, 1996. Filter was the opening band and we showed up as they were already playing. Then at the intermission as they were setting up the stage for White Zombie, Britney and I were making our way through the crowd to get up front for a little bit of moshing. We made it to about the middle of the crowd and we were just kinda browsin the crowd. As I am looking I see the back of this hat that says BIT** in red, and I was a bit taken back but then the guy wearing the hat turned his head and we caught each others eyes. He had the most beautiful green eyes I had ever seen. However, we were like fifteen to twenty feet away from each other with a sea of people between us and then the lights dimmed and the show started. Needless to say Britney and I did not stay in the mosh pit for long and eventually made it over to a side area. We then were enjoying the show when some other guys started to talk to us; which I was not to jazzed about. I could see the green eyed guy like ten feet away hangin out and I so badly, for the first time in my life, was contemplating walking up and talking to a guy. There just seemed to be that immediate connection between the two of us, but I just couldn’t do it.

Britney and I ended up ditching the “other guys” finally, but also I than lost the green eyed guy. Then the show was over and we were heading out, I was looking everywhere for the green eyed guy. Unfortunately, the “other guys” found us. So we made it outside and these “other guys” were trying to get us to go and hang out with them. As they are talking to us, I see the green eyed guy walk out the doors, I could feel my heart pounding faster, he walked right behind me and across the parking lot and up and out of sight. I was crushed, I couldn’t believe he was gone. Finally the “other guys” left and we walked across the parking lot and up to the spot where Britney’s dad was going to pick us up. I was still so bummed and then all of a sudden I saw this dark red car approaching and the green eyed guy was driving. I started telling Britney, that’s the guy (or something to that effect). I could feel my heart racing again and then the passenger window came down and his friend yelled out the window, “Do you guys have boyfriends?”. They had thought the “other guys” were are boyfriends, thankfully that was not the case and we walked over to the car and started talking to them. The green eyed guy was Jesse and his blonde haired friend was Layne. We chatted for a minute and then gave them our numbers.

As soon as I got back home from Britney’s I actually told my mom about this guy I had met. Which this was a first, I was so excited and I barely even knew him. There was just something so special there. However, once Jesse found out how old I was he tried to not be interested, as he was currently 18 soon to be 19. But he could not resist my sweetness and the following Friday he picked me up from school and we hung out. I had never had so much fun in my life. I then invited him to my mom’s birthday party on March 10, 1996 and that is when Britney and Layne also formally hooked up. We have all been together (for the most part) ever since. It has been an amazing journey and I feel so lucky for this life. I love you with all of my heart and more Jesse, and I always will.
